What is Li-Fi?

It was invented by Professor Harald Haas in 2011. It is a high speed optical wireless technology. This LiFi technology uses visual lights (LED bulb lights) in digital information transmission. You know that this technology is similar to WiFi, however, there are many differences between WiFi and LiFi, both are the same because both share information wirelessly.

WiFi transmits data through Radio Waves, while LiFi uses Visible Light Communication. This technology works on Light Bulb (LED) lighting. LiFi Visible Light Communication This is optical communication technology. In which Visible Light Rays are used, this ray range is 400-800 Thz.

Due to the transfer of data via lights in this technology, it speeds around 224 Gbps, which is almost 1000 times higher than WiFi. How does Li-Fi work?

It works just like all other internet devices. Before you know how it works, you should know what components are used on Li-Fi. Li-Fi basically uses the following three components.
  • Lamp driver
  • Led lamps
  • Photo Detector
Along with these three components, you need another Connection, which you and I call the Internet. I have already given you information, it transmits data through lights.

Internet source is connected to the Lamp Driver. The information that comes from the Lamp Driver Internet Cables transmits it inside the Led Bulb. After that light which comes in the Led Bulb, it is easy to recognize the changes in the Photodetector as it collides with the Photodetector.

LED bulbs have a few Characteristics. LED Bulbs are the right material for LiFi due to Light Emitting Diode and Fluorescent Component. LiFi requires high-speed data rate and the light intensity of the LED bulb changes rapidly. Light is sometimes on and sometimes off.

Photo Detector converts Lights Signals into binary data. Then send the computer and smartphone to be processed. How the data comes from the Led Lamp via the Lamp Driver and then the Photo Detector comes from mobile, in the same way, the data from the opposite mobile can be returned to the receiver via Led Lamp.

If you are standing under Light Source and if you are also moving, then your connection will not be cut. If you move from a Light Spot and move into another Light Spot, it will automatically switch to the second Light Spot.



History of Li-Fi

Prof. Herald Haas, he was from the University of Edinburgh in the UK. Prof. Harald Haas is also known as the founder of Li-Fi technology. He had represented his Invention in Tech Talk. Herald Haas is the co-founder of Pure Li-Fi. From his thinking, today we can use Li-Fi technology.

According to Harald Haas, if any information is sent through the Visible Light Portion, then it is called Visible Light Communication (VLC). Harald Haas started a D-Light project from 2010 to 2012, when he was in Edinburgh's Institute for a lot of time. After spending a lot of time on this project, during 2011 TED Global Talk had demonstrated Li-Fi Technology to the public. After this, people started to know about this technology. At the same time, a company was started without losing a time, whose name was PureLiFI which is still now.

PureLiFi first name was Pure VLC, which was an original equipment maker (OEM) company. To increase PureLiFi business, the company started working on existing LED lighting.

In October 2011, the company had formed the Groups of Industries and Li-Fi Consortium. Both of them had the same motive to create a high-speed wireless system. Finishing the limitations in the Radio Waves There were many companies that started making Uni-Directional VLC Products but it was quite different from Li-Fi.

In 2012, VLC technology was introduced with Li-Fi. It was proven in a presentation on August 2013. There was Data Transmission with Single Color LED 1.6 GBPS in it. In a Press of 2013, it was said that there is no requirement of Line of Sight in Li-Fi. In a report of October 2013, it was reported that Chinese Manufacturers have engaged Li-Fi kit in development.

Advantages

  1. Efficiency: You must know this technology is based on Visible Light Technology. As you know, there are already using LED bulbs in the office and home. LED bulbs are good sources of light.   2. It can be used within a room only.

  4. There is a possibility of hindering internet speed due to Sunlight.
  5. The new Li-Fi connection has to be created separately for the network.
  6. It is quite expensive technology.
